چکیده

Normal adult male Swiss albino mice, weighing 25 g on the average, were exposed to 500 R gamma rays from a Cobalt-60 source in the presence and absence of the chemical MPG or 2 mercaptopropionyiglycine and histological studies of thymus were conducted at various post irradiation intervals. It was found that MPG, when given 30 minutes before irradiation, protected the thymus tissue and caused an early regeneration of the organ as indicated by the presence of dividing cells in different stages of mitosis in both cortex and medulla as early as 72 hours postirradiation. The normal structure was regained by the end of two weeks in this group in contrast to the unprotected controls where recovery was not complete even at the end of four weeks after exposure. MPG when given 30 minutes after exposure is not so effective, even though protection is afforded in this case also. The mechanism of action of this drug is not known.

Chemoprotection of ovarian follicles of mice against gamma irradiation by MPG (2-mercaptopropionylglycine).

Chemical protection/Ovarian follicle/Gamma irradiation Adult virgin female Swiss albino mice were irradiated with 2.5, 5 and 10 Gy of gamma radiation in the presence and absence of the drug MPG and changes in the ovarian follicular population were scored at various post irradiation intervals of 3 hours to 14 days. The results indicate that the drug has partially prevented the rapid reduction in...

Toxicity of 2-mercaptopropionylglycine (MPG) on mouse liver.

Undertaken study deals with any vulnerable changes by the radioprotective drug 2-mer captopropionylglycine, after administering in variable concentration (20, 50, 100, 200 and 500 mg/kg body weight) of the liver of adult mice at 1, 3, 7 and 14 days interval. The lower doses, 20 and 50 mg/kg body-weight of MPG did not affect the liver at all while at higher doses of 100, 200 and 500 mg/kg body-w...

Study of radio protective effect of Thymus vulgaris essential oil against ionizing radiation on peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs)

Introduction: Today ionizing radiation (IR) plays an important role in medicine, both in diagnostic and therapeutic field. Doctors, medical staff and patients are all in danger of side effects of IR so there is a need to protect them against deleterious effects of ionizing radiation.  Thymus vulgaris has biological activities like antioxidant and antibacterial activity. Aim of...

P-123: The protective Effects of The Vitamin E on Sperm DNA Damage Induced by Mobile Phone Radiation

Background: Cobalt (Co) is an essential trace element for mammals required for the synthesis of vitamin B12. It is not a cumulative toxin but chronic exposure induces negative effects on the organism. It was proven that cobalt passes via placenta appearing in the fetal blood and amniotic fluid and it is shown to possess an embryotoxic effect. Also, chromium (Cr) is recognized as a trace element...
